Native American Heritage Month: Jim Thorpe

The first Native American sports hero, Jim Thorpe (1888–1953) was hailed as the greatest athlete in the world after the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, Sweden. He won the pentathlon and set a new world record of 8,412 points in the decathlon.
