New Apples Postcard Stamps To Be Issued in 2013

With these stamps, the U.S. Postal Service proves that apples are not only good—and good for you—but they’re also delightful, cheery stamp subjects, just right for postcards! Countless varieties of this popular fruit are now grown around the world. Some of America’s favorites are shown in these four stamps, each depicting a different variety: the red Baldwin, the green Granny Smith, the yellow Golden Delicious, and the multi-colored Northern Spy.

Art director Derry Noyes designed these stamps with illustrations by John Burgoyne. Burgoyne used pen and ink and watercolor to produce the original art, later adding some detail on the computer. Beautiful!

These four new postcard-rate stamps will be issued in 2013, though a release date has not yet been set. You can read more about the 2013 stamp program on Beyond the Perf. And don’t forget our Holiday Gift Guide for some last-minute gift-giving ideas!

  1. John Burgoyne is one of my favorite illustrators. He does work for Cook’s Illustrated. I can’t wait for these stamps. As a Mail Artist, working primarily in the standard postcard format, I use lots of postcard stamps. These will be so special for me. I wish they were “forevers.”
