We are delighted today to announce that the 2013 Emancipation Proclamation (Forever®) stamp will be officially dedicated in a ceremony on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. The unveiling of the stamp will take place at 8:45 a.m. to be followed by a dramatic reading of the Emancipation Proclamation by Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Rotunda of the National Archives. Only 100 viewers will be allowed in the Rotunda, so arrive early. Another 200 attendees will be able to watch the program on a screen in an adjacent theater.
We hope you will join us in celebrating Freedom’s First Day!
